The paintings of Solange are actually self portraiture without the representation of the figurative self. Her work is “self” translated and reinterpreted in a subtle language, the emotions of which become strikingly manifest. Her paintings may be varied stylistically, but perhaps it is because she had such manifold experiences throughout her life.
Born in Kigali Rwanda in 1972, Solange got a bachelor degree in art and French literature at the University of Kigali, in Rwanda. She fled her country in 1994 during the genocide and worked for the United Nations around the world eventually settling in Paris for a while. She finally came to New York in 1997 to pursue painting and a creative life. She has been studying recently at the Arts Students League with Knox Martin for abstract painting and Del Rosario for mix media and collages.
