Runway Report Arise Africa Fashion Week 2009

As the designers ripped the runway for a week of African creativity we mark the trends on display.

Assymetric Dresses

A big trend on most of the catwalks this season, asymmetric dresses are great for both day and night looks

 Goth

African fashion is usually recognized by its flamboyant colours but these designers have worked their way through black threads to produce these great gothic looks.

Ruffles

Thrills and frills. Ruffles made their way onto everything from headwear, dresses and tops.

Red

Long and short of it

Here are some of our favourite after eight outfits.

We also highlight some of the designers we think you should keep an eye out onDesigners to watch:Adama Kai Eyola Heni Jewel by Lisa

  2. Jacinda Says:

OMG, You have to be kidding me, these lines are just gorgeous!

I love them and want to buy buy buy!

I heart the fact that these are African designers, seriously… you all should create a website that sells ALL these things then publicize on other mainstream websites and in magazines like Vogue, Elle, Harpers Bazaar, etc etc because I know people would buy… especially women of color! I would SO much rather spend hundred buying one of these dresses than most other designers simply because I would be supporting the black global community.

I’m SOOOOOOOOOOOOO in love with these clothes, you all are just amazingly talented. We need you all to come to the states and try to get your clothes in Saks, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, Barneys, etc etc. Seriously!

We need more high fashion black designers in the states badly, I look forward to seeing your brands expand!
