Superella

Sanlam Fashion Week April 2009

Designer: Ella Buter
Label: Superella
Est. Date: 2003
Design Training: Lisof School of Design, Johannesburg

Brief Biography:
Ella Buter first launched her cutting-edge Superella label at Sanlam SA Fashion Week in 2003 as a finalist in the prestigious Elle New Talent Competition.
Since then the label has become a consistent highlight of successive SSAFW events with the Winter 2008 collection garnering a standing ovation and extensive publicity for its exceptional creativity and production values in interpreting the idea of timeless fashion and essential style.

Passions:
The process of making gorgeous and wearable clothes that make real women feel good. The eternal love affair with fabric, fabric, fabric.

Summer 2009/10:
The working class and the poor are the sources of inspiration for this collection. It is a response to the impact of poverty which is the biggest social issue facing South Africa today and the effects of which confronts us all daily.
Those people living on the edge of survival and the workers – in factories, on farms, in construction, as domestic helpers – are the heroes of this collection. A salute to the beauty that is created by using nothing.

Key Words:
Simplicity
Layering the function with the personal
The peasant dress
Beauty from nothing

Retail:
Just -  44 Stanley Avenue, Millpark, Johannesburg
Mungo & Jemima -  Long Street, Cape Town
