Brief Biography
Abigail Betz with partners Maria Dracatos and husband, Louis Meyer, has taken the Abigail Betz label to new heights over the past year with the opening of the first signature store in the Mall of Rosebank in Johannesburg which stocks her ready-to-wear, couture and bridal couture.
The Abigail Betz collections have been launched at the Sanlam SA Fashion Week since 2000, she has participated in several international shows including representing South Africa in China to celebrate a decade of trade relations between the two countries and has received extensive recognition for her contribution to the local fashion industry. Plans are afoot to introduce a menswear range aimed at the sophisticated male consumer in 2009.

Inspiration
The Abigail Betz signature epitomizes beauty, femininity and romance with Abigail drawing inspiration from old world crafts like embroidery, beading and crochet and interpreting them with a contemporary twist.

Abigail Betz loudly proclaims “Screw the Recession.” Heavy with bespoke hand-stitching, exquisite Spanish border or Chantilly lace, custom-dyed jewel shades of deep red, purple, teal, grape and midnight blue, cotton velvets and silks, summer 09/10 immerses itself in the seduction of “precious.”

  1. Sanlam South Africa Fashion Week. Day ONE. | FashionAfrica.com Says:

[...] Groom or no groom, this girl is designing my wedding gown, whose practical yet goddess-ness would be perfect for a cocktail party, red carpet event or wedding. Think layered chiffon strapless dresses and long trailed gowns with soft drapes at the back. But before we get to the nuptials, let’s start with her everyday collection, which is anything but ‘everyday’. Well constructed and flawless are the words that came to mind while watching the show. Betz’ dreamy yet bold velvet half bubble coats, with bow belts, scarf neck and granny brooches in warm hues like brown, cerese, red, cream and black worn over soft pleated, cocoon shaped dresses and cream-golddust coctktail frocks with three cascading pleated and a V-shaped back epitomized Dita Von Teese’s statement that femininity is the new feminism. 8. Sasha Says:

Abigail has inspired me to become more of a woman. Get rid of the combo pants and crocks (LOL will not be seen dead in these!!!!!) and become more sexy but feminine. Beautiful classics – very hard to find but she brings out the best in woman. Her attention to detail and the use of textures, fabrics and colours surprises me every season. There is always something new and she is not shy to experiment. Thank you Abigail Betz for putting the FEM back in woman clothing!!!!!!

  9. Amanda Says:

I must compliment Abigail Betz for her talent and absolute attention to detail. Being a critic – she is by far the best talent in her country (SA). Pity one can’t see her on the international runways, and why not? So many less experienced and talented SA designers show in Paris and NY. Why not her? Please explain!

    Love your designs!
