With Love, XOXO.

This particular post is inspired by the current main feature on the homepage - ‘With Love’, which celebrates the end of Audi JoBurg Fashion Week rightly with a Thula Sindi creation.

If you missed the amazing coverage by SA Editrix - Lelethu Lumkwana, check it out in the features section (click on big picture on homepage) or http://www.fashionafrica.com/features.

Moving on, with love still in the air, lets celebrate some very fashionable relationships. First up,

Iman & David Bowie

iman-david-bowie.jpg

Iman & David Bowie have been married for 15YRS. Iman is one of the 1st African Models to take the Fashion Industry by storm - a muse for YSL, and now CEO of IMAN cosmetics. David Bowie AKA ‘Ziggy Stardust’ is also a pioneer in the music world, bringing to its forefront, Glam rock. They have a child together called, Alexandria Zahra “Lexi” Jones, born August, 2000, and both have one child from their previous marriages. They are definitely a role model couple, and are well admired for their creativity, while still keeping it stylish. They spend most of their time between Manhattan & London.

Kassy & Liya Kebede

kassy-and-liya-kebede.jpg

Kassy & Liya Kebede have been married since 2000, they both hail from Ethopia. Kassy is a hedge fund manager who came across Liya while she was still struggling to become a well, sought-after model. Things have taken a turn around for Liya now - First model of African descent to be awarded a highly coveted and lucrative contract with Estée Lauder- a $3 million cosmetics ad campaign. Liya still models and runs ‘The Liya Kebede Foundation’ (read more in the People & Tributes section). Liya and Kassy have two children together; son, ‘Suhul’ and daughter, ‘Raee.’ As of 2007, the family resides in New York City.

Luca & Oluchi Orlandi

Luca Orlandi is a famous designer who runs the label house ‘Luca Luca’, in August, 2005 he married long time companion, Oluchi Onweagba - 1st winner of Face of Africa (representing Nigeria). They gave birth to their son, Ugo in April, 2007. Oluchi is still a sought-after model - a Sports Illustrated and Victoria Secret model, she spends her time between New York & Africa, where she runs her modeling agency O Model Africa in South Africa (check out her profile in the People & Tributes section as well).

I’ll leave you with some of my favorite ‘Love’ quotes, some true, funny & sarcastic!:

  • Love doesn’t make the world go round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile. - Franklin P. Jones.

  • If you have it [Love], you don’t need to have anything else, and if you don’t have it, it doesn’t matter much what else you have. - Sir James M. Barrie.

  • True love comes quietly, without banners or flashing lights. If you hear bells, get your ears checked. - Erich Segal.

  • Love is the triumph of imagination over intelligence. - Henry Louis Mencken

  • Love: a temporary insanity, curable by marriage. - Ambrose Bierce. More fun “Love Quotes” HERE.

Have a lovely day.

P.S: I watched the premiere of ‘A rasin in the sun’ on American TV and was blown away by the Yoruba that was spoken, but even more so, shocked, when the Male Character (played by David Oyelowo) brought Sanna Lathan - his love interest in the TV premiere he nicknamed “Alayo” (Joyful or peaceful in english) - an ensemble from ‘Africa’.

…just wondering if people still call this fashionable? :). Sanaa Lathan rocked it though!

Again, have a lovely day, but just before you leave, watch ‘Get it together’ by Seal. Love him!

Love, Wadami.

  4. nosita Says:

  5. Joan Says:

awww…i love the couples!!!!They all look so cute together….btw I love Ambrose Bierce’s quote!! so cute!! I caught the Raisin in the sun too…and I am in love with the Yoruba guy!!

  6. Ikechukwu Says:

Ms. Lathan’s head-tie is gorgeous! The whole wrapper and head-tie look can definitely be revamped to remove it from that image of a dress that is confined to the house. In the case of Ms. Lathan, she doesn’t push the boundary, but it’s still a beautiful ensemble. The simple top Ms. Lathan wore does have perfect color harmony with the African fabrics, but doesn’t free it from that image of something worn in the house. A more creative top would do the outfit an renewed justice because the colors and visual texture in head-tie and wrapper is not run-of-the-mill African fabric.

  7. Camdenwo Says:

    thats it, man
