Reppin’ the Indies.
The Fashion Bomb - An uber fabulous blog, created by Claire Sulmers, a writer and reporter in New York City- launched a Tshirt design contest late february encouraging readers & designers around the world to help design a shirt for The Fashion Bomb. The Top 15 designs were listed today, and I couldn’t help but notice a couple of African Indie labels!
One of the designers chosen, is an indie fashion line created by Nigerians; Joan Caven, Oseyi Etomi, and Doreen Caven designed for people who love and appreciate glamour, glitz and style. Original and refreshing, they produce different looks ranging from chic to Mod and give advice on how to pull them off. They are currently TOP 3 in the polls for these designs submitted on behalf of the label:

Another familiar indie label spotted is UgoSeven. Jaja Nwokeabia (Nigerian) is the fashion designer of UgoSeven:
A young chic, edgy label - UgoSeven features uber - sexy beach wear and flirty dresses. UgoSeven provides the perfect wardrobe for the contemporary woman who embraces the power that comes with always being a lady. Here is UgoSeven’s design:

Since we can’t play favorites on FashionAfrica.com, all I’m saying is please check out The Fashion Bomb - http://www.thefashionbomb.blogspot.com/ to cast your vote, and make sure that the Top 2 are from Africa *wink* If we don’t support our people, who will?
Let Them Eat Cake
(Ugboma Twins, Photo: Ugoseven.com)
No, the above title has nothing to do with The Fashion Bomb contest, but features twin sisters; Njide & Nneka Ugboma (Nigerian),who are really making waves in the magazine industry in London. The Ugboma twin sisters launched their magazine “Let Them Eat Cake’ in 2006. LTEC is a magazine for Fashion Assistants by Fashion Assitants. The magazine’s title, which references Marie Antoinette’s infamous words serves as a platform to showcase the work of assistants to credible photographers, stylists, and hair and make-up artists. Check out their website HERE.
Last but never the least is our favorite indie, and FashionAfrica.com contributor, Ikechukwu O.:
Check out HIS BLOG about the blessings of truly being a meandering soul in this microcosm he knows as style. The meandering has drawn him to the verve of the streets, the penchant for style has steered him towards the splendor of Africa. Chike-Ikechi serves to fuse the two loves by documenting the individualism that is style from a primarily Africhic lens. However, an appreciation of all forms of self-defined style etiquette will be expressed throughout his journey.
Have a lovely day!!
