Cape Town Fashion Week

jourdan_dun_cape_town

With South Africa’s Spring season already in the air, Cape Town is set to dazzle with glitz and glam from August 11-14 as the AFI Cape Town Fashion Week comes to town. The fashion extravaganza will showcase a heady mix of emerging and established designers, who will flaunt their collections for the new season.

Theme of Event: ‘Refresh’ Renew’ Revive’

Venue: Cape Town International Convention Centre

Date:August 11- 14

Some designers to be present: Kluk CGdt, Suzaan Heyns, Stefania Morland, Craig Native, Dax Martin, David West and a number of up and coming talented designers.

Brilliant news is that major clothing chains Foschini and Woolworths have thrown their weight behind the brightest design students from fashion schools to present a graduate collection as well as a mixture of up and coming and familiar designers with emerging talent collections. Both retailers are partnering with the Cape Town Fashion Council (CTFC) who has partnered and worked with African Fashion International (AFI) to manage production and marketing of these shows.

  1. Piwe Says:

What publicity or marketing has any of the emerging or new designers received??????????? We are all waiting with baited breadth for the profiles of these new designers! Is AFI or CTFC planning to do it on the day when all audiences will be pre-occupied with a Kluk CGDT show???????????…This is so against what CTFC professes to stand for, and this article is so faulse, you can’t even name the new designers, how are these people ever going to make it in this cut-throat industry when they can’t even get simple exposure such as their names beng mentioned in articles!!!!!!!

  2. Kabelo Says:

Piwe, really speaks the truth, this years fashion week is being held for the elites. Very few ordinary people know about this years shows and designers- especially the up and coming ones-and how to get tickets for their shows. Please shed some light!

  3. Joan Says:

The Best ever CTFW was 2003 and before then the Nederberg shows, in recent years circa 2007 its become soo disorganised,

The showcase is in a week and information, schedules etc is yet to be shown. and what happened to booking? I have to drive all the way to CTICC? what about people coming abroad? how the hell are they to know?

Im sorry – but i anticipate a disaster – I feel so sorry for the young designers – CTFS has become a joke!

just shows you how much they care,

  5. Tshepang Says:

My head literally spins when I think of the number of fashion weeks we are exposed to in South Africa.

On the one hand, I’m proud and excited that we have a big enough industry and enough talent to support over 10 weeks of fashion a year.

On the other hand, I really do have to wonder if we are not chokiing all of the life and excitement out of 4 or so days out of what should be a successful and productive week of the business of fashion?

I will say that African Fashion Week and Audi Joburg Fashion Week have been well produced by AFI for two following years in Johannesburg, and I dream of the day that a week of fashion in Cape Town is as well supported by members of the general public and the industry.

    That’s all….

  6. A Friend of Fashion Says:

Let those young designers make their mark, by producing beautiful clothes. Don’t think KLUK CGDT happened overnight. Ten years of hard work got them to where they are today. Nothing comes easy in life!
