Art auction @ Civic Center, Lagos
Last night I went to an art auction put together by Art House Contemporary Ltd. My first ever auction, so I didn’t know what to expect. But I had a good time watching art lovers place their bids on some of Nigeria’s finest works of art, especially when two bidders would go neck and neck. Two artists I respect—because my mom loves their work—had their art on sale. Kolade Oshinowo and Olu Amoda. I actually got to sit with Mr. Oshinowo at the auction, and he was thoroughly impressed that I am interested in Nigerian arts.
Kolade Oshinowo’s “Portrait of a Woman”
Here are some pictures of my favorite pieces from the show—carefully dug up from Art House’s website. I meant to take my own pictures but only succeeded in getting some blurry stuff and, well, a fabulous shot of my friend Ike who was at the event. Check her out in the Street Stylin’ section.

Beautiful selection. I’m yet to attend an auction myself. How often does the civic centre host these?
